LA Recap

A short recap for LA. Last Wednesday I left for LA on a work trip. Not only was I working for a few days, but I also managed to find a bar that was handing out free vodka drinks. Who does that? Needless to say, I was a little groggy on Thursday morning. I guess we all were.

On Thursday we went to East LA to clean up the streets and graffiti - which was really fun - even if I was hung over. That night we had to get dressed up for a big party. Luckily for me, my co-workers are not just co-workers they are friends too, so we had a lot of fun.

On Friday, we checked in our hotel to stay for the Weekend. We stayed at LeMontrose in West Hollywood, which was awesome. Below is the view from our rooftop pool. It was so nice to just lay in the sun for a few days.

There are many things I dislike about LA and this trip just reconfirms why I would never live there. However, we had a ton of fun and poor Rob had to hang with 3 girls all weekend. Some of my favorite parts were.
  • Laying by the pool for 2 days and the temp was in the mid 80s
  • Having breakfast at a small cafe with Rob in Beverly Hills
  • Drinking 4 bottles of wine before our Dinner Reservations at 10:45 on Saturday night
  • Eating dinner at Mario Batali's Pizzeria Mozza. It was SO GOOD. Highly recommended.

  • As always, neutral dropping the Dodge Magnum.

Below are more pictures of the FUN weekend.

New Trim

Finally, the trim is done on the house. A little rain set us back a little bit, but now it's finally complete. We also have a n-used garage door that I just finished painting today as well. Rob is so smart, he was able to find used parts from about 3 different garage door sets to make 1 working garage door at a bargain price. No more manual opening and closing. That's right, we've entered 2008 with a garage door opener! We're kind of a big deal.

Before we had our outdoor trim painted, Rob did a ton of work installing new soffit ceiling bead, and taking down the existing gutters to replace all the fascia. Once the gutters were down, he cleaned and painted them, and today I helped him lift them back up into place to re-install them. Everything is as good as new and ready for winter! Except the rain barrels, which will be next week's project I guess.

Friday Favorites!

A few random favorite things this week...

Vegas Baby! I'm going to vegas in a few weeks to meet my sister for a few days. I haven't been to vegas in a few years, so this will be fun. I'm hoping to see STOMP OUT LOUD, where my old friend, Laura, is the Company Manager.

I'm going to see my favorite band tonight. Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers at the Triple Door.

DodgeBall! I joined my company Dodgeball team. I can't wait! Stay tuned for pictures from my first game on the 20th.

Have a great weekend!

War As They Knew It: Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, and America in a Time of Unrest

I know it's Saturday, but I did mean to post yesterday. I am reading a book right now that I highly recommend if you are a college football fan. Even if you don't particularly like Michigan or Ohio State, it's still worth a read. The book details the intense rivalry that was between OSU's Woody Hayes and Michigan's Bo Schembechler. Not only is it a great football history lesson but the year this particular rivalry began was in 1969, which is also such an interesting time to look at the political challenges and differences on each of those campuses. I think the book is amazing and well written. When I read it, I just imagine what it would have been like back in those days. Recommended!

Another favorite this week is 4 skeins of Malabrigo Laceweight yarn that I bought at The Yarn Grove. It's yummy yarn that will make some great gifts. There really is nothing better than winding yarn and drinking a glass of wine on Friday night!
